When the mining is complete, we will leave the land in a condition equal to or better than we found it. This mission is turned into reality through an environmental committee and a dedicated staff of corporate and field environmental experts. Peabody's nationwide environmental team applies an ecological approach to land restoration, creating a healthy, sustainable environment for plants. Lands are restored for beneficial use as high-yield farming and grazing lands, forests, wetlands, wildlife habitat and recreation areas, an approach that garners the industry's highest honors.
